"M" is the national mark of the Isle of Man. I'm not sure as to why a piece of the U.K. has its' own registration letter.

Is it a tax haven?

A beautiful classic aircraft ... probably the best looking aircraft ever made by Boeing. Look at the curve in that wing as it takes the weight. Poetry in motion, so synonymous of its era. The winglets are a later addition to provide greater fuel economy. The low-bypass PWJT8Ds on the originals made them a very noisy jet. Hush kits and high-bypass engines were fitted to later models.

Paul W: the Island of Man is NOT a part of the UK: the island came under the feudal lordship of the English Crown in 1399. The lordship revested into the British Crown in 1765, but the island never became part of the Kingdom of Great Britain or its successor the United Kingdom: it retained its status as an internally self-governing Crown dependency.

The Boeing 727.... didnt have to look up to know what was about to come your way, no doubt one of the best looking models off the production line.

Looks like a -200 to me. ??

Watched and worked thousands of "tri-motors"(as we referred to them) at ORD during the 8 years I worked there.

Why is it that everyone gets the model wrong - this is a b-727-200 SERIES most likely with JT8-17R engines. With the winglet enhancements. Still a very beautiful aircraft.

The sky used to be full of them but now they're becoming a rare sight. The caption says it's a -100 model. That's not correct, it's a -200
James Shields
The 727 shown is a -200 model (stretch). #2 engine inlet is round not oval shaped. This is the easy way to tell difference between them. 10000+ hours flying them! This does not go for model with different engines from original installed (UPS, etc.) Also short tailskid is a giveaway.

I flew them, loved them, miss them!

Regardless of the model, this is a beautiful old bird

Not a pilot or anything. Spent career in IT. But this is a beautiful picture and airplane! (enjoy the comments, too)
