OPINION: ATR and Bombardier Should Heed Embraer's Turboprop Warning

Übermittelt

Bombardier could be forgiven for thinking the world is against it. With Boeing’s anti-dumping claims still ringing in its ears, there comes a strong hint from regional jet rival Embraer that it is serious about a return to the turboprop market. (www.flightglobal.com) Mehr...

I have never worked on an ATR, but I know they are harder to work on than the Q400's... Bombardier really screwed up when the came out with the 400. They cut cost where they should not have. The 100's, 200's, & 300's are solid fliers and a lot are not starting to time out, but they were great planes.. The 400's have a lot of redesign to cut cost and it shows. They have a great power plant and prop, but they redesigned the gear and not it is not reliable. They redesigned the wing and now they are plagued with Wing Spar Attacks and they break down all the time and are AOG for Parts. I can see why the 400's have dropped off... A good 300 is twice the aircraft in quality.

Yes sparkie624...the de Havilland Dash 8/300 should have been left alone. If they wanted a bigger turboprop, should have gone back to the clean sheet approach...yes Pratt makes a great engine and Dowty a great propellor but that landing gear is a mess.

Hi Sparkie24, Did Dowdy Aerospace in Mississauga make the 400 Gear? In your professional opinion, how could a re-efforted 400 came out, what does Bombardier have to do to improve the quality of a nextgen product in this Class of Aircraft? Thanks RK.

No, they wen with Goodrich... To make the plane better they would need to go back to the older heavier gear, and beef up the internal structure. These planes are already have corrosion issues when inspected in Heavy Checks and that was 5 year old info... I know that Republic had quite a few 400's and they have now gotten rid of them because they are too expensive to operate and take too many cancels due to maintenance issues.

I too, hope that Embraer shot to Bombardier's perverbial head does some good...the idiots are sitting too complacent, with their thumbs up their butts, in Montreal.

Yeah, these are the idiots who sell more business jets in world than anyone else. Invented the concept of a wide body business and Regional Jet Aviation with wide body Regional jets.Invented STOL Aircraft, Flying Waterbombers. The Twin Otter was used as a rescue ambulance to Antarctica. Why didn't Embraer do that job? It is the third largest aircraft manufacturer in the world. Something Embraer covets with access to Boeing's lobbyists in DC. Incidentally the C-Series fleet operators are getting a better fuel burn than Bombardier originally guaranteed. Bombardier jets put significantly less carbon in the atmosphere. Most of the engines for business aviation are built in Quebec. You will commit a Trump sin - supporting a foreign business like Embraer. Our relationship with the US was symbiotic, however,Mr.Trump will create a predatory relationship wiping out 25 years of great Canadian/American relations. That is now called the evolution of regression. Have you ever visited the people with their thumbs-up their in Montreal? I think not. Don't say stupid things of which you have zero knowledge. Don't respond you'll even look more stupid pour les Francais et Anglais Canadien. Embraer build nice aircraft, the Phenom is beautiful. 60,000' Mach.0.99 for about for four passengers. You can go Miami direct to the Azores...is that practical...NOT. You are destroying the atmosphere so 4 rich guys can go wherever they want no matter the environmental effect. Did you even know Bombardier have been working with biofuels? I think you've got your head rammed up your digestive tract particularly where the %÷£₩€×××+% meets your €%%.

First I love it when you come into these forums just looking to pick a fight and go on and on making it seem like I don't know what I'm talking about and you are the expert. I worked for de Havilland Canada and then Bombardier for a number of years so yes I have seen them sitting on their perverbial butts! They didn't invent the flying waterbomber (CL215 and CL415 and others), they didn't invent the Dash 7/8 100's, 200's and 300's and they didn't invent STOL or the Twin Otter. Those were invented by de Havilland Canada and Bombardier took over when they purchased de Havilland. I did not say anything at all against PWC and their engines (I think they build fantastic turboprop and regional jet engines)..and as far as regional jet sales, Embraer took over that role as selling more regional jets back in 2012..I could care less about what Embraer does to their craft, Trump's thots or the first true regional jet was actually built overseas (Avro RJ) aka BaE Systems..and as sparkie624 pointed out, Bombardier took a great little turboprop, the de Havilland Dash 8/300, and broke it!

I was aware that Bombardier acquired de Haviland. When they rolled out the Dash 8-100 and Dash 7. I believe she (Olivia de Havilland, the late British Actress) was invited to the roll-out of these aircraft mid to late 70s in Toronto. (Were you their?)I believe you claim what you know about Bombardier. What about the C-Series? You seem to
know what you are talking about. Obviously they did some things right. I like a good argument but not a suck-in that's just sleazy. You could wind up on the brain-impaired discussion list for deceiving the participants of this forum. What do you gain deceiving people for fun? That is extremely close to a definable mental illness impairment. If this is going to be the case, you desperately need a professional mental health referral.
