AOPA is now demonstrating the first 100-octane unleaded formula to gain an FAA supplemental type certificate. The demonstration began October 31 in a Beechcraft Baron twin dispatched to Ada, Oklahoma, where General Aviation Modifications Inc. (GAMI) produces its G100UL. Additional demonstration flights will be scheduled. GAMI is currently working toward commercializing its fuel in order to distribute it more widely. As other 100-octane unleaded fuels come online and are authorized for use by the FAA, AOPA intends to demonstrate them as well.
