Drunken first-class passenger who screamed 'I hope this plane crashes' fined £10,000

Rachel Street, 41, was told she would have to go to jail for six months if she didn't pay up by Monday as the sentencing judge branded her drunken assault "utterly appalling"

Rachel Street, 41, has been fined £10,000 after carrying out a drunken attack on board a flight from Barbados to London(URL:)

A first class passenger who screamed "I hope this plane crashes and we all die" while flying home from Barbados has been fined £10,000.

Rachel Street, 41, had to be restrained on the Virgin Airways flight to London Heathrow on January 5 this year as she launched into a tirade of abuse, threatening passengers and grabbing a member of the cabin crew.

Street previously admitted a host of charges but was spared prison when she appeared back in court.

District Judge Deborah Wright told Uxbridge Magistrates’ Court: "You were travelling in first class, you were in a situation where effectively everybody was unable to escape from your conduct.

"You behaved with a sense of complete entitlement and you exhibited absolutely no understanding of the stress that you must have passed on to your fellow passengers and to the staff while you were travelling 38,000 to 40,000 feet above the ground.

"Your behaviour was utterly appalling."

The self-employed production assistant told crew and passengers 'I hope this plane crashes'(URL:)

The court heard Street was under a "significant amount of stress" at the time of the flight and this "played a part" in her behaviour on the day.

An earlier hearing was told passengers started to complain about Street early into the seven-and-a-half hour flight.
