"Martelle says dumping the fuel wouldn't harm the lake. He says the process allows the fuel to evaporate before it reaches the lake's surface."

BETTER TO DUMP THE FUEL VS. DUMPING PEOPLE.

Aside from scaring the living S#it out of the passengers and people on the ground, wouldnt it make sense to have dump & burn systems on aircraft to cook off the fuel they dump before it hits the ground? I remember a similar event in NYC where an Airbus with a landing gear issue showered most of Queens in jet fuel before landing.
