Whats with all the SWA hate? Fly them all the time. Never have any issues. Of course most of the flights are in Texas, so not much time to have problems.

The list is many, I used to work for them in the Maintenance Department. As a new employee you are treated like dirt. I am not going to exaggerate. It is worse than boot camp. As a new employee you DO not sit in the nice chairs, you sit in the corner. If someone brings in a treat, you do not touch it until invited by a senior tech. In your reviews, they put you in a hole and dig you out. Asked why review was so bad, and was told that they have to hear something good first. Gave him 3 examples, and was told "Oh, I did hear you were a good R&E (Radio & Electrical) but no apology. Too a bath in skydrol (Synthetic Hydraulic Fluid) and my skin was on fire burning. Finished the job, cleared with the leads and took a shower. Later got written up for taking a shower before the end of my shift, even though all the work was done. To prove a point I took in 8 dozen doughnuts. Gave 5 to the senior people and 3 to the probation people. The ones who took a doughnut hide it so that the senior people would not see them for fear of being written up. To top things off, I am not a drinker. I went to a company event at the home office in Dallas during my InDoc class. They had nothing but alcohol. No Water, No Soda, only BOOZE. At work 15 minutes before clocking out at work with a/c in the hanger and others still working there was drinking at the time clock... I quit. SWA does not meet my persoanl standards for any amount of money they pay... They Push to get the work done in a time fashion that is not safe, and when they have fuselage cracks, I just wonder when they are going to blow there top.. Ref http://www.aloha.net/~icarus/ for what I am talking about. That is why I HATE SWA, and at any price as a line mechanic that used to work for them... I WILL NOT FLY ON THEM FOR FEAR OF SAFETY REASON. They have had 2 major cracks resulting in fuselage cracks and they have gotten lucky. I hope #3 will not be there unlucky number for the sake of the flying public.

Sparkie, I don't doubt a bit of what you said, but they got to be doing something right to have stayed around 40 years, and I am kinda like Chris. I haven't flown them in awhile but when I did, it was fabulous. Like him, most flights were to and in Texas but they were great.

I just hope you or no one else is on there big let down is all I have to say. I feel it coming... And I feel bad about it, and a lot of innocent people are going to pay the price.

I appreciate your response. Typically, folks in here tend to dog a particular airline (cuz they work for a competitor) or Airbus (cuz theyre Boeing Homers) without backing it up, but you let it all out. Of course, I doubt anyone will take what you wrote about SWA as gospel, but rather a tirade from a disgruntled former employee. However, you have every right to express your concern, and again, I appreciate you backing it up.

The FAA has a whistleblower program and is better suited to hear your concern than folks in the Flightaware forums. I hope you remember that if or when I become part of Southwest's first smoking hole in the ground.

It's not like this is new service, they're just taking over AirTran's route. AA, UA, and US will all probably be bigger competitors at MEM than WN.

I know they had BNA as a hub at one timw several years ago, but AA really needs to take the opportunity to get in there to funnel midwest pax thru.

That AA thing probably won't happen due to PAX demand..probably..

You are probably but they need to take a look at Eastbound pax out of KNXA,KTUL, KFSM, KLIT and maybe a few others, as all out of those points have to go West to KDFW first, resulting in cresed travel tim and in some cases cost. i.e LIT to the Carolinas. A natural choice is DAL via KATL direct. using AA, you would go west nearly 400 miles then come back over that same route. Not as bad but KFSM is the same thing, adding about 200 to the trip.

And also another thing since SW is taking over AirTran here shortly. Does that mean that SW will run all of the AirTran routes as well? We're talking ATL - MEM - ATL here on a 737!

Well, it would beat them ragged 9's that DAL is running on that lane.lol

They are running some A302's of various types as well.

It'd be even better if Southwest was still a discount carrier. These days, they hardly seem like the low cost leader aside from checked bag fees. Usually just as expensive as the majors.

As they grow, it will be moreso. There are still SOME low cost lanes sus as KLIT to KDAL. I sent 2 guys down there/back a few weeks ago for what Eagle would have chrged fo 1.

Someone's gotta pay for all those new 737MAX's...

What's with all the negative vibes about SW. They might not be perfect, but they are a cut above DL,AA,US and UN/CON. Name another arline that allows you to check 2 bags for FREE? I often see their ticket agents bend over backwards, jump thru hoops and run miles to get one person on a flight that was closing the door. I rarely see that from any other airline. Now Sparkie624, you are probably telling the truth, but I doubt that's SW as a whole. You should have went straight to the top and reported it before you quit. I agree with Wayne, " they got to be doing something right to have stayed around 40 year." I rarely see a SW bird that's broke, but you always see a DL bird that's broke, leaking or just plain dead. I' am not putting SW on a stage with a spot light, but they are doing something right. One thing that's keeping them soaring above the rest is that Boeing 737. It can fly in/out of almost every airport and holds more passengers/bags then those CRJs, Dc-9 and Md-88s.

GEEZ! I hate to see that... I love the 737's but the operation of SWA, NO WAY WILL I TRAVEL ON THEM.
