In 1972 a Nigerian Airways F28 did the same thing at Port Harcourt but was pretty badly damaged. I have photos.

Yes and I was in Monrovia in December 1978 (may have been 1979, as memory is dim) when Nigerian Airways DC-10 (5N-ANR)- on an intermediate stop between Lagos and JFK - slid off the end of Robertsfield's 11,000 ft runway in a driving rainstorm. Plane ended up in a ditch that sheared the nose gear letting both engines hit the bank, twisting the mounts. The pax baggage had to be unloaded thru the floor of the plane. Plane was towed to the hangar for a 3 month TDY type fix, then flown to Spain or Italy for full repairs and returned to service.

I have photos somewhere of this accident as the plane ended up right next to the airport road at the north end of the runway. Funny part was they didn't want it photographed, so they "covered up" the livery. But they did it by taping brown paper over the name and the large green "N" on the tail - IN THE SHAPE of the letters and words. So you could still read it.

Funny thing is this accident is not found in any of the reporting on airliner accidents - at least I've not been able to find any, and I occasionally search for it. It was non-fatal.

The plane was written off in 1987 in a non-fatal landing accident at Ilorin, Nigeria during a training flight overrun due to cockpit error.

Interesting that he didn't run off the end of the runway -- that's what I had expected. The article from the squawk even says the plane overshot. But this photo shows that the plane veered off the side of the runway.
