Delta extends the middle seat blockage into January 2021

Übermittelt

Delta Air Lines has made this announcement: If you’re considering holiday travel this year, Delta is your choice for safer space. We’re extending one of our key health and safety protocols this winter holiday season by blocking the selection of middle seats and limiting the number of customers per flight through at least Jan. 6, 2021. “Medical experts, including our own partners at Emory Healthcare, agree – more distance on board makes a difference,” said Bill Lentsch, Chief Customer Experience… (worldairlinenews.com) Mehr...

The point of the cheap seat, was to compete with Discount airlines, you want a discount seat ? we have that, a little more room ? we have that, First Class? yes that too. The Majors did this to compete with discounters and to make money. Several discount airlines are already on the way out, and probably were close pre pandemic. People who don't know ... , buy basic economy and then expect to just grab any seat, like Economy Plus (on United) or Delta Comfort. You either pay for this seat or have status, you don't complain your way or sneak your way in.

If the airlines want passengers to come back, then they'll need to start treating the flying public like customers and not cattle.. The first item on their agenda should be to increase the seat pitch so the flying public won't feel like they're riding in the laps of the person sitting in front of them. Until then, I'd rather drive.

You can’t increase the pitch without removing several ties of seats, which will drive the fares up.
With most airlines, You are not forced to sit in the cheap seats in the back. You can pay a little more and have plenty of legroom in the Economy Plus section.
Your choice.

ken..your theory applies only on very large aircraft that actually have some kind of delineation between "cheap sets" in the back, and economy plus..i remember several years back when continental (now united)as with all carriers at the time, had paper boarding passes with seats taken off a chart when you checked in..there were no computerized boarding passes and the color of your boarding pass showed which section you were in by what you paid.there were gold for first, blue for coach, and yes red for the "cheap" or economy fares, which by the way, continental called "chicken feed fares"..the red boarding passes were always seated in the rear of the aircraft, and the blue in the middle or towards the first class cabin.of course then people had leg room even in the back of the plane!!!

Correct. Can't have your cake and eat it. People tend to forget this and want bottom of the barrel prices for luxury. Profit margins are super slim.

Should read “removing several ROWS of seats....

I'm aware of what's involved.. The airlines are crying about reduced loads now.. If you want your customers to come back, start by giving them a reason.. You don't have to be the lowest cost provider in any market.. But in today's market, there isn't any casual business out there.. Make the experience pleasurable again.. No one likes to fly and that's got to change first.

Just wait until the cold and flu season starts (when the kids go back to school) and watch what happens as people show-up for their flights (by the hundreds) coughing and sneezing!
It's the elephant-in-the-room nobody wants to talk about!

I can just imagine what the TSA employees will do!!!

Reading between the lines, if you want to fly around the holidays, one should book sooner, rather than later. It may be an old used car sales trick but I don't think so in this case.

Delta is not the only carrier blocking middle seats. Southwest, for one, has been doing so for several months.

The two airlines that likely have the most cash.

Great news. I am so comfortable with Delta Covid guidelines. I flew United and it was a disaster. They had no middle seat blockage did not enforce masks people where yelling at each other to wear masks and flight attendants hid in the back. I complained and basically got a pat on the head.
