Rightly so. Make the proposal so damn convoluted and cryptic that nobody would want to read it and certainly would never understand it.
Then it's a guaranteed pass in both houses of congress and then in the Big House.
When the flaws arise, Eric can deny everything.

This was supposed to be a reply to Mark Saunders' remark above.

Guys, it wasn't even the TSA that caught the gun. MCI has contracted employees that do security, not the TSA.

Must have been a DEA agent "walking" laundered drug profits into Mexico so that the DOJ could follow the money...you know, like for Fast and Furious and the other ingenious plans from our intellectual elite in DC.

In the media you are guilty until proven innocent...news is so slow in Kansas City that the local media likes to milk stories like this as much as they can. I wonder why the TSA statement didn't match all the facts from the news story. I'm pretty sure KMBC got all their info from either KMCI airport management, or Delta, which they gathered before the "official TSA statement."

Curious as to where the stories don't match. Is it that the news says he was headed for Tucson but TSA said it was on a flight to Minneapolis? Since Delta doesn't fly KC to Tucson, his flight would be through a Delta hub - MSP, DTW, or ATL. I do believe that MSP has the best connection.

That's true, I didn't think about it being a connecting flight. I retract my statement about the stories not matching.

This guy was gonna go out kill a random dude after taking the drugs..happens all the time everywhere. I bet the TSA loved to tackle this guy.

thank you to the firstline company for doing a great job getting this idiot and contacting the local police
i feel safer flying now rather than riding a greyhound bus as there are no screeners at greyhound or any other cross country bus line

My simple question is, how did he get a gun on the plane ? Is that too much to ask ?

My mistake, he didn't get on the plane. duh

I love how this guy was caught by a private security firm and the TSA pipes up to take credit for it. This is one industry that damn well needs to be privatised.
Bravo Firstline Security. Boo TSA.

TSA catches guns and weapons all the time every day. Knives, stun guns throwing stars, brass knuckles, explosives, etc... Hate them all you want, but they don't often advertise it like they did this time to make a point. Feel safer? I do. Take a Grey hound bus if you love the freedom of traveling alongside threats to your life.

Amy... To make a point? Are you sleeping with someone at TSA? Or are you one of its internet zombies? Its was a contract firm not TSA that got the guy. The idiot might as well had a neon sign over his head. Even prior to 911 the screeners were getting idiots like this. If this is how you feel safe then read this from a real security pro!

Not that I want to bash TSA, but I believe that he was caught by a contract screener, Firstline Security.

Well if law abiding citizens were allowed to exercise the second amendment (and not just in 1 state), then people who want to commit crimes would get what's coming to them, and everyone would be safer anyway. 9/11 would have never happened, put it that way.

Right! I NEED to have my Barrett super sniper rifle on my person at all times. That chain gun in my carry on? Yep. Need that too.

Prevented 9/11? Please. I dont trust 98% of the population to make rational choices with their cellphone use, let alone firearms.

I think the argument DJA984 is trying to make is that someone would be less likely to go through with a crime if they knew someone on the other side could blow them away. It's kind of like would you rather take candy from a baby or from a soldier holding a machine gun. Whether or not that would honestly make people safer is up for debate, but I do know that after Missouri passed a conceal carry law several years ago, criminals have been blasted away for messing with the wrong people.

"According to federal documents, Firstline Security screeners spotted the gun as it passed through an X-ray machine at the Delta terminal."

Unless I am mistaken, isn't this private security and NOT TSA?????????????????????????????
raptor22ms

Firstline is a private company hired to do all the security at all 3 seperate terminals at KMCI. Personally I find them to be more plesant security experence. Not to mention it seems like they actually catch things. This should be an example to the government that airport security should be taken care of by private companys. Not budgeting billions on TSA and making tax revenue on a US company just sounds like a win win for the tax payers.

Mark: I'm ashamed of you, talking about all them poor TSA folks like that. If they did something like that all them poor folks would be out of a job. Besides, your last sentence is one that makes a common sense statement and that would be to simplistic for the government to follow.lol

Good job TSA and FBI. This man was out to kill someone over a drug deal gone bad in my opinion.

Your opinion? Based on what?

And it's not like the TSA (and FBI?) had to go above and beyond the call of duty to look at the X-Ray screen and say, "Is that a gun?" They arrested an idiot. Way to go.

But let's keep wasting money on them anyway.

I believe we should wait for all the facts to be gathered, before jumping to any conclusions. I am not sure why the press and a significant number of the general public automatically assume this man, by virtue of having a gun, was intending some nefarious act during the flight. As for the weapon being detected by contract security personnel, I conjecture there will be a cleverly worded press release, with vague quotes from TSA management, leading a naive public to perceive another TSA success.
BTW, a big ‘atta-boy/girl’ for Firstline Security.

Regardless of his reason, read the last part of the article. There is already a statement there from the TSA tooting their own horn.

I am still of the opinion there is no problem with having loaded guns on board -- simply put the statement of an armed society is a polite society. You would not need the TSA if permit holders were allowed to carry on flights and the criminals might think twice as well. TSA's only real use should be cleaning the toilets in the terminal and directing parking lot traffic
