TSA Officer charged in distributing child pornography; searched airline passengers

Übermittelt

A passenger screener at Philadelphia International Airport is facing charges that he distributed more than 100 images of child pornography via Facebook, records show. Federal agents also allege that Transportation Safety Administration Officer Thomas Gordon Jr. of Philadelphia, who routinely searched airline passengers, uploaded explicit pictures of young girls to an Internet site on which he also posted a photograph of himself in his TSA uniform. Homeland Security agents arrested the TSA… (articles.philly.com) Mehr...

TSA is a tragedy!!Maybe the people who are rifling through you stuff should have a background check first?? These are the guys "keeping us safe". Might be a candidate for the behavioural profiling that they maybe should think about?

Please. One bad apple out of 50,000 workers makes TSA a "tragedy"? That's a bit of a stretch, isn't it? I challenge you to name another profession (including teachers, doctors, clergy, pilots) that hasn't been tainted in this way, despite background checks.

No Indy, TSA isn't a tragedy because of this latest article-- they are a tragedy for the other 50 before! All I can think to say about this latest incident is wow. (And yes, that is with 100 percent sarcasm)

I'm sorry, but I just don't get all the fuss. My wife and I fly several times a year, and in over 300 encounters we have yet to have a problem with TSA. They get a bit bossy at busy airports, but that's because passengers can't follow simple directions or read signs! And many of them come into the security area with a negative attitude to start with, which is sure to cause trouble. As far as searches, I've had an implanted pump since 1989. So I've been through every type of search they've had -- magnetometers, "sniffers", pat-downs, enhanced pat-downs, and full-body imaging. In over 200 encounters, we have yet to meet an agent who was not friendly. (The airlines should train their people so well!) They take the time to explain what they are going to do, and they go through the search efficiently. As far as my "naked" image produced by the latest imaging equipment, I feel sorry for the poor soul who must look at it. Take a look at your fellow passengers and ask yourself if you would really like to see them without clothes.

TSA agents have been asked to perform a thankless, politically-motivated job by idiotic bureaucrats. The vast majority do it well, despite low pay and a cutback in numbers. For that, they are belittled by the media and others. I guess as a teacher I feel a certain empathy.

indy, i think most people that b!tch on here about the tsa don't even fly, they just hate government officials unless its the guy delivering their social security check or the woman processing their medicare claim. don't let 'em get to you.

as to felipe's question "name another profession where they see people naked of all ages, genders, races and sizes"

how about doctors? :)

Guys like this make cops jobs easier. You just gotta love the guy that posts his own picture along with all that trash. And it's even better with a nametag. Thank God for stupid criminals.

I got to agree with these last 3 comments. It is a thankless job to commence with and the pay is not great but most of them try. The other comments are kinda like trying to lump all the controllers together for the bad actions of a few. As far as Chis's comment about posting his picture, YOU CAN'T FIX STUPID!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Cutback? In the past 10 years they've gone from 5,000 to 60,000 officers.

Low pay? 30,000 straight outta high school sounds pretty good. Some of the pilots and flight attendants that go through these procedures multiple times daily make less than these glorified wanna be security guards

Matt: the doctors who need to see you naked are doing so for your health, you are coming in knowing that this will happen and not to mention without doing so, would make their job nearly impossible. Do you really need to see me naked for me to get in an airplane?

And a semieducated person at that. Doctors are very well educated through many years of schooling and discipline. These TSA bozos come right outta high school

"Semieducated," Felipe? I've known some very capable people who have "come right outta high school" into a career--and some of them were pilots. I've also met some idiots who had advanced degrees.

I agree with you 100% James

But the fact of the matter is: Those who have secondary education are, ON AVERAGE, a world different than the AVERAGE worker who stops after high school.

A lot of very successful people dropped out of college. It does not mean that college dropouts are more likely to succeed. Anomalies do not make the whole

For a some of you youngsters out there, in 1967, a college deferment would not even keep the draft board away when 'Nam started going strong and there were a whole bunch of high school kids that never saw college and by the time they got out of service there was really no time. Some of ya'll are probably working for those same folks right now, so lets just not get too high and mighty about high school or college.

Felipe, the older I get and the more people I meet, the less I trust generalizations. You may think that people who aren't college educated are, on average, "a world different" from those with a degree. I don't make that assumption until it's demonstrated to me. I hear a lot of disparagement of working people these days. They deserve better.

I know a bunch of college educated peopl that are as smart as someone could be but haven't got a like of common sense when it comes to trying to solve a very simple problem. There are lots of things in the real world that require solid practical thinking. If a person has both common sense and education, they are truly blessed and are leaders of tomorrow.
