Delta Air Lines Boeing 737-900ER Wing Flap Believed To Have Fallen Onto Home Driveway In Raleigh
A homeowner in Raleigh, North Carolina, saw an unexpected sight on the morning of Wednesday, July 2. Local news station WRAL reported that police responded to a 911 call at 08:30 about a large piece of debris blocking a driveway, which was later confirmed to be a portion of an aircraft's flap. It is believed that this originated from a Delta Boeing 737-900ER registered as N940DU when operating DL3247 from Atlanta to Raleigh-Durham. "...believed to have fallen..." what, have they discounted that it may have jumped? It was down at the time. Such journalism....
"this doesn't appear to have had a major impact on Delta's operations." Who writes this crap.
Wow... that is not good! Will be interesting to see what the NTSB Determines the cause... Don't want to prejudge on this one.. Need a lot more facts!
Qualify control issue?
There are many of them flying and most are over 20 years old. At this point, you have to look at MX.
It depends on Which Serial Number it is... If it is one of the new ones, then it will be on Boeing. If it has had the Flap disassembled as a part of Maintenance, then it will go back to the Company. That is information that we do not have... At least yet!
The registration is in the article, the airframe is from 2012. It would have been subject to multiple C checks.
