This has been no secret! We all have known about US Airways wanting to scoop up AA since AA entered bankruptcy protection in November 2011. I work for American Airlines as a CSA, and US Airways agents work really close to our gates. They have even mentioned stuff to me about the merger between US Airways and American Airlines. We have even joked saying the new airline name, which AA had this name back in the early years of it's start up, but it will be called American Airways to include both AA and US in the name! We could still use our famous AA logo! But, on a serious note, it's only a mater of days before the "big news" comes across that US Airways and American Airlines have announced the merger!

To be honest, I would be more convinced if you had thrown in a few more exclamation points. But as it stands I remain skeptical.

Please, there's a "i hate airline ______ cause they blah blah blah" story for EVRY airline not one has no complaints and not one is perfect. I've seen countless passengers freak out at airports. And almost always the issues were out of the Airlines control. I have flown hundreds of flights a year domestically for the last ten, and flew in the 60's 70's and 80's and am still amazed at how well it works. Yes there are bad people in the industry, but isn't this just life, and at every company. I was grilled last week by airline employee to make sure i had a tag on my bag, then they forgot to ask my wife and I for are ID's. Anyhow I love United, had great service on Continental, been in awe of Virgin America, happy with Alaska, impressed with US Air, blown away by Pan Am, and yes they have all ruined someones trip,...SO GET OVER IT AMERICA !!! Drive if you want more control.

I agree Scott. Since airlines became mass transit give up the expectation of being pampered. My airline experiences are mostly good with only a few problems. Think of it as riding the bus and you will be happier. To me the worst part of airline travel is not the airlines. It's the system. I do drive more when the family goes. Expect ticket prices to escalate even more and take it for what it is-a time saver in some instances but not all.

one would think they should complete their first attempt at a bankruptcy merger before they add another company to the mayhem that continues there to this day!

The US Airways brand identity is just horrid - I'd rather be on a CIA terrorist rendition flight to Albania than fly them. They should either merge under the AA brand or emulate Comcast and AIG and just start out with some fresh brand that would take a few years to tank.

If I recall correctly, it was America West who acquired US Airways in Sept of 2005.

One of U.S. Airways "proud" ancestors was good ole Allegheny Airlines, a.k.a. AGONY Airlines, just thinking!

Regardless of the employees, service, etc. this is all about $ and self protection. They can buy it for less right now, and if they go thru with this, they protect themselves from AMR coming out independent and kicking their butts. To boot, now that they have taken it this far, it has to succeed. If it doesn't and AMR comes out independent. Parker has painted a target on his back and Horton will be coming at him with guns blazing.

i dont think they will come to an agreement as far as the pilot groups goes. Last time AA merged with TWA, the TWA pilots got screwed. Today most TWA Captains are FP's and probably wont be Captains in their life time.
AA management is pretty hard headed, and dont seem to be able to run the company well enough to stay out of bankruptcy every couple of years..

Maybe US Air will handle the AA pilots the same as they did TWA.

That was ugly but the US Air pilots are still fighting so it's hard to decide which was worse. At least they are still flying.

They may all be whistling in the dark. If we don't get an administration that cares about fuel prices, a whole lot less people are going to be flying, including pilots. Lol

Yes. Obama is using all of his magical powers to make fuel prices higher. It has nothing to do with the wasteful demand pressures associated with people driving their SUV to their neighbor's house down the street rather than making a minimal effort to find alternative. Lol

500 hundred years ago global warming had heated the earth to a level that allowed growing grapes and making wine in Scotland. Europe was sweltering. I checked the DMV records and not one single SUV was registered. There were far fewer people, and everyone was using "alternative" transportation. It is 20th Century man that is responsible for financial speculation products that are amping up fuel prices.

Yeah, it has nothing to do with arbitrarily restricted supply and everything to do with people driving Tahoes around. That makes sense.

boo, no more murging for now. The airlines are too big and give fewer choses for passengers. Most of my friends don't like the continental united murger due to the fact that had issues with united as a passenger in the past. What will be the issues for this one? Inherit older aircraft? Be left with the bill for the new ones?

Well, as I have said all along, if they go to these unsecured creditors or to the stockholders, they will circumvent the management plan, which is to emerge as an independent entity. Then, it will all be up to the judge. Interesting

If it does happen all I care about is that US Airways keeps their current livery. The nicest of all the US carriers.

it would not happen. AA would be the more recognizable brand worldwide.
