Unidentified Aircraft Seen Over Southwestern U.S.

Übermittelt

The identity of what appears to be a blended wing-body aircraft type photographed over Amarillo, Texas, on March 10 remains uncertain, with the U.S. Air Force declining any comment on the aircraft. Three aircraft were observed flying in formation southwest of Amarillo around 4:20 p.m. CDT, by photographers on the fence line of the city's international airport. IbOne of the aircraft could be a B-2, but the clearest color photos and monochrome images enhanced (for contrast and resolution)… (www.aviationweek.com) Mehr...

This article says it was bigger than a fighter plane so I am guessing it is probably the missing Malaysia flight. It only makes sense...

Must be the new triple seven shape shifter.

Probably a F-117 Nighthawk doing a training mission or something that doesn't really matter.

The F-117 went out of service in early 2008

But, yet, there it was.

The angle of the leading edge doesn't match that of the F-117. Plus it's lacking a tail that is prominate on the F-117.

Oh, you're right. I figured the view of the tail would be obstructed by the powerful jet exhaust.

But the silhouette doesn't match up to the shape of either b2 or f117. That trailing edge is so straight.

But if they didn't want their secret plane revealed, they wouldn't have flown it in formation over a major airport during the day in broad daylight.

Though, it wouldn't take much effort to make a low-resolution black triangle in the photo.

But they do still fly occasionally, for whatever reason. They may have no mission but they aren't in the boneyard yet.

Maybe Putin is testing the US's air defense capabilities.

Operations w/o Mode S transponders would seem to be risky business with all of the recent goings on in the world...how is ATC suppose tell the good guys from potential bad guys relying strictly on just on voice communications (lots of bad guys can probably speak passable English) or perhaps with no communications at all?

doubt it.....really bad angle and to far off to really tell what it is but unlike Maylasia our government probably knows what it was but just aren't saying anything.

During Gulf War 1, I was living on Pensacola Beach Fl. Oddly, Gulf Breeze at the time was the number one spot for reports of UFO's on the planet. Crazy what is in the sky next to Pensacola Naval Air Station and Elgin Air Force Base...we even had a cruise missile float up on the beach one day...good times (my brother was learning to fly at PNAS - whirlybirds)

These guys were working together in the block 36,000-37,000 feet, using UHF military radio frequencies.NASA did have the XB-48 as a prototype, and them and Boeing were working on a larger Demonstrator model.

It's Aviation 'Week', so the date is the publication date of the article, which historical precedent from old-fashioned paper weeklies is a date in the future.

That no longer makes sense in an Internet world, the way it might've when weeklies were sent in the mail and available for sale at news stands fir an entire week.

But time warp sounds like a cooler explanation.

Well, we already know they are not enemy ; that leaves military. Don't need their xponders on as they can "see" all other aircraft.

Does anyone think the Skunk Works has shut down? The production schedules for secret projects aren't published in the Washington Post. When the F-117 crashed near Bakersfield CA in July 1986 before the government acknowledged its existence, the Air Force response was We don't have a secret plane, it did not crash, and there was no fire.

Wasn't there a similar report in discussions recently over Western Nevada? Sounds similar.

Fascinating. This must be the first time an secret military aircraft has been seen flying around the Southwestern United States. Maybe it's full of aliens. Or weed or something.
