Circled for 2 hours, then tried to land. Maybe low on fuel and forced to take a stab at it?

Odd. Reports say other inbound aircraft elected to divert to other airports
apmac77
anthony mchale 4
You have to wonder why they did not move on to another airport after an hour of circling.
yr2012

Aborted first landing, went into circle pattern for an hour, before attempting second approach. My guess - ran out of time/fuel.
allench1
allench1 1
See my above post they had two hours of fuel when they departed the hold for their last attempt to land. Also they had called a missed approach and climb to 8000'. One can see the steep descent into the ground.

As further evidence the impact created a large explosion. From. That's right jet fuel

Still had 2 hours fuel

plenty of ceiling, quartering strong headwind. 5000+ hour pilots. The question at the front of my mind is was the descending hot spot just prior to explosion a landing light or an engine fire issue on go around. A single engine issue on go-around as light as they were shouldn't have been an issue but obviously something happened.

data recorder reportedly downloaded but CVR still being repaired and therefore still questionable.

I too was looking at that hot spot Eric...if u follow it through very slowly, it does not appear to be landing lights as it appears to drift , much like a fire would. instead of staying constant.
Bernie20910
Bernie20910 1
To me that looks like reflected lights, not anything actually on the aircraft. I'm sure the investigators will be looking at this too, and will confirm exactly what that was.

Viewing the video. In the frame the AC can be seen descending at what appears to be at least a 60* angle. also in the shot is a bright light which is clearly visible before impact.

A lot of people on here are merely hobbyists and have a general interest in aviation.

You have been accosting commentators since this morning.

So since only you have a divine purpose on these boards. Let's here your "professional" opinion. Instead of trying to slam everyone else.
allench1
allench1 -8
Almost all of real professional pilots have left this site due to the onslaught of immature based responses along with myself especially since Preacher1 received his heavenly wings a few months ago. Sad really that the site has been taken over the way it has.

I didn't realize one had to possess an Airline Transport Rating or a minimum of 5,000 flight hours to join FlightAware or that this site was exclusively for "professional pilots". Any source of media that allows commentary is opening up itself to everything from trolls all the way to the experts. You can participate and ignore the idiots or you can walk away...or in this case, fly away. Speaking for myself, there are plenty of people well versed on the subject of aviation who have zero flight time. I have had a love of aviation since I was a boy I can talk shop with any pilot, any day, any time.

I'm glad I could give you the platform to gloat about your achievements in the aviation world. No one was berating the pilots on this site, I was only making the point that those non-pilots who are interested in aviation have just as much right to enjoy this site as you. Unless you're wearing a badge that says NTSB, leave the deducing to those qualified. You are simply speculating. Big difference. So far you haven't posted anything on here regarding this crash that anyone watching CNN couldn't have figured out. But thanks for your "expertise".

Bernie20910
Bernie20910 1
The key here is that one word you used, "unbridled". I think the public comment areas of the site could use a few good moderators, to help keep things in check. Fresh flow into the pond is good, and helps keep it from stagnating, but the flow needs to be moderated and controlled if you want to keep the pond as a pond, and not have it become just another section of the drainage canal carrying all the effluvia of the unwashed masses to the sea.

Yeah, good luck to anyone trying to get pax to use chutes and bail out. Hell, the cabin crew still has to explain to them what a seatbelt is and how to use it properly, or how a tray table works. Getting them into a chute harness should be loads of fun.

This is interesting. I assume the fin stabilizer is elevator trim? Had the trim run away prior to AP disc? I haven't seen anything that would lead one to conclude severe icing was involved though a tail stall could explain part of this. I know that the 37 has had previous problems with rudder valves moving to the hard stop but last I read, this problem had been solved? At go around PNF appeared to be reasonably calm so whatever unfolded, likely happen very quickly and apparently unexpectedly. How they reacted to the situation as it unfolded might have fatigue as one of the causes. whether the fatigue can be attributed to their previous duty schedule or just the stress of the last couple hours will be hard to say with any degree of certainty.

The aircraft carried fuel for trip, contingency, alternate, final fuel reserve (30 minutes) and additional holding for about 2:30 hours, total fuel for an endurance of about 8.5 hours. The aircraft had been airborne until time of impact for 06:02 hours. GO TO avherald.com for more precise info

It looks like they may have struck an engine/wing on the landing attempt and got slow and stalled on the go around.

Before you publish articles like this, check at least, media reports. The plane did not clipped the ground. It went into a free fall after pilots aborted the second landing and started climbing up. At some point they lost control of the plane and it went down into the death spiral and could not make out of it. Pilot error most likely. See what was caught on the camera here (http://www.ntv.ru/novosti/1615500).

Peter, tell me "Who put the French Engines In the American-Made Boeing? That said,Let's leave it to the experts. But, from long past experience" how'd those French Engines get in the US made Boeing 737-300? And will that have anything to do with the tragedy?..............Nuff said.

You got to be one of those people that are ready to bash anything not made in the US and now jet engines, at the same time you are demonstrating to be a totally ignorant person on aviaton matters. What you call French engines are actually 50% General Electric (do you know who are they, if not let me know) and 50% Snecma from France and they jointly developed the hugely successful CFM56 family of engines which enjoy top repeat top reiability reputation. One of several aircraft using them is the KC-135 tanker and the RCK-135 Recon aircraft. Find this difficult to accept, well it is your yourproblem. The hugely expensive and risky business of developing new jet engines is met by GE by bringing in solid companies who will share risk and profit, not only eviation jet engines but gas turbines used for generating electricity such as the LM2500, LM6000 and now the LMS100 in all of which various FOREIGN STAKE HOLDSERS joined GE and formed a formidable team.
MGTD
Charles Peele 0
After 30+ years in that industry, yes I was well aware of GE. Their biggest claim to profit was allowing some one else to do the R&D, then buy them out cheap. Risk and profit? Yeh sure! Let the little guy do all the R&D and then come up with the same product, after the fact, and put the little guy out of business or buy what he has left cheap. Sorry Chalet, KC-135 and RCK-135, not hard to accept---like the wise Astronaut said, this vehicle contains over ten thousand different parts, everyone of which went to the low bidder---it's the blind hog finds an acorn every once in a while style of management. I'd still rather have a P&W or Rolls turbine hanging from my wing. Now go home and kick yer dog!

Why then you accused outright the "French engines" of being the culprit of this accident, it was awful, man. Hope that you don't have any dogs or cats at home, not even a sweep broom (LIMAO).
MGTD
Charles Peele 0
I did not accuse the engines. I was asking who put "French-Made" engines in an American-Made" air craft. It was reported that way in all American News papers this "morning---no accusation just who and why? You need to get yer head out of that place it's stuck up and into. You may be too young to recall but SUD or Nord had a big problem, years ago, when they attempted to forge turbine blades all in one piece instead of individual machining of each blade for assemblies. Killed a few Americans before they got wise. The only thing I can state with any amount of accuracy is that we shall learn, after penetrated study what DID cause this terrible catastrophe. I'm certain the French made engines will be part of that study along with the rest of the American frame...c
djames225
djames225 1
That would be like asking "Who put the British-Made engines in an American-Made" craft or "Who put the American-Made engines in a European made craft"..it doesnt matter where the engines nor the airframe came from..when an accident like this happens, all the pieces are examined.

Boeing from Dubai crashes in Rostov On Don possibly More than 100 passengers could have been on board

Flight FZ981 from Dubai arrived in Rostov-on-Don at about 1:30am, but due to harsh weather conditions, strong side winds gusting at 25-30 meters per second, it spent the next two hours in the air, picking its moment to land. As FZ981 was cruising near Rostov-on-Don (ROV), several other flights opted for alternative airports, but the captain of FZ981 decided to wait for a chance to land at ROV.
