KLM Royal Dutch Airlines to retire all 747 aircraft in 2021
KLM is the flag carrier of The Netherlands and is based at schipol airport. They operate 4 747-400 and 12 747-400M (combi). They have been in KLM fleet for a while. KLM will retire its 747 in 2021. I do not know what aircraft they will be replaced by. KLM flies its 747 on routes to America, Africa, and Asia. KLM operated 747-200 and -300 but they were retired in 2004. I understand the business economics, KLM is, after all a business, and profits are what businesses need to survive, but it is a shame to see these grand ladies go.
Corrupt link.
Nooooooooooooo!
Where's the story? All of the links take you to Wikipedia's front page. And I can't find any news article later than last summer.
Just search KLM on Wikipedia and look at the KLM fleet and it will show notes about the aircraft being retired
It's sad to see most carriers either fully retiring the 74, or planning to do so. My hope is at least they'll continue living on as freighters....much like the DC10 did.
I suppose it's no different than the DC3, 707, 727, and others were replaced. Still painful to watch - mainly because it forces me to acknowledge Father Time always wins.
