Icon Files for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy Protection: Pledges Transparency

Icon Aircraft, manufacturer of the Icon A5 amphibious Light Sport aircraft, announced this morning (April 4) it has filed for Chapter 11 protection under the Bankruptcy Code. The filing is part of “a strategic restructuring process,” according to a statement. Awesome amphibian! Wish I had bought one out of the gate. Now that I can afford one wish I had. The only two seater I can see my wife getting into and grinning. Unfortunately, I’m on 2 many opiates to trust myself in it. Don’t wait. Just do it. Time is too precious.

Looks like a cool plane but obviously a limited, niche market. Lake produced single-engine amphibs for over 50 and eventually ceased production.

The company has had some wing issues on the planes.. Some (especially the early ones) had issues with the wings folding in flight... I am not sure if they ever overcame that issue! They do not have a very good name in the GA Arena!

There have been no incidences of wings folding in flight according to that manufacturer and other published records.

Not from what I have heard... I had a Friend who owned one and got rid of it because of the issue!
