Boeing-Canada Super Hornet dispute goes global

Übermittelt

The Canadian and British governments are combining forces against Boeing in a trade dispute that threatens the purchase of fighter jets as well as aerospace jobs in both countries. In April, Boeing asked the U.S. Commerce Department to investigate Bombardier, claiming that Canadian government subsidies for that Quebec-based firm allow it to sell its C-Series passenger aircraft in the U.S. at cut-rate prices. Canada has little need for the most advanced fighters other than bragging rights in the mess. They need range and deployability under extreme conditions unless the national policy is to defend only a few cities from bases in Comox, Cold Lake, North Bay and Bagotville. There are long spaces in between. They need a few aircraft capable of supporting NATO missions.
While the final decision will be political, from a military point of view there are lots of options which may not please the brass but can do the jobs needed.

"Some will rightly note that the price offered to Canada includes a lot of support equipment, spares and services that are not included in the US Navy order, as they are bought separately. "

Sort of like the price of a small sailboat, which did not include sails, running gear, motor, battery or trailer. It did include the standing rigging.

Another analogy would be airline 'add on fees' above the ticket price.
