Currently, there is only one Lockheed 18 (Howard 250) Lodestar still flying; however, the one seen in the photo above is going to be undergoing extensive work to return it to "flying status."

June, '43 .... Sent to RCAF (Royal Canadian AF) and reregistered as 559.
1946 ...... Acquired by the Michigan Tool Company and reregistered as N67H.

1966 ...... Modified by Howard Aero; became one of a very few L-18 Lodestars to have tricycle landing gear installed; thus, becoming a Howard 250 model
Lodestar. Reregistered as N6711.

The Aircraft Spotters' gods were smiling my way yesterday when I had the great good fortune to be allowed to get some closeup clicks of this 80 year old (1942-2022) Lockheed L-18 Howard 250 Lodestar. There aren't very many Howard 250 modifieds around. Only one is still flying (based in Texas somewhere) and only two or three others (including this one) are known to still exist. It's the tricycle gear that makes the Howard 250s so rare -- only a few L-18 Lodestars were modified to have the tricycle gear installed.

Awesome! She looks like she misses the sky and is ready to back up there. Thanks Gary.

Even looks like the tires might still be up. Hope they get it flying.

Very interesting, Gary! Well done!

Sometimes classics such as this, and perhaps not quite so but still interesting, can turn up in unexpected places. Good stroke of luck you finding this and being able to get a good pic.
