LOCKHEED C-5 Super Galaxy (87-0044) - I was standing 35 feet off the west edge of the runway yesterday (16 June 2021) as this Travis-based Super Galaxy came past (measured diagonally - I was told the left wingtip appeared to be less than 100 feet from me as this behemoth swept past) and planted all those tires down on the concrete.br /br /Focal distance this shot: 70mmbr /br /I had my 70-300 fully closed when I clicked this. I grabbed my other camera with the 18-55mm and tried to get a shot at 18mm -- and I had TOO MUCH LENS! I have no doubt that this is the closest I will ever be to a Super Galaxy as it touches down next to me. WHAT A RUSH!!!!

Focal distance this shot: 70mm

That's not fog obscuring the mountains in the background; its smoke from wildfires. The really weird thing about it was that the smoke stayed there, off in the distance, and so when I spun around to snap this big puppy smokin' all those mains, the sky beyond it was blue with some clouds. And PS - All those main gear tires create a helluva lot of smoke when they kiss the concrete - but I was able to get a shot a split second before I was bombarded with sand, grit, little stones, weeds, and lord knows what else that was being blown right at me by the engines.

When this was still a distance away, inbound on the last few thousand feet of short final, it looked as tho it was aimed directly AT me. It was so unbeleveably real that I almost turned and ran .... but I figured the pilots weren't going to risk damaging a VERY EXPENSIVE military plane just to make me s__t my drawers so I stood my ground and kept clicking the shutter. But GEESH!! As it filled my viewfinder -- and STILL kept getting larger and larger --, I remember thinking -- DUCK! But I didn't. And I'm glad I didn't. (HUGE grin)

Fantastic Shot Gary! Up close and personal with a C5. Doesn't get better than that! All 5 and should be many, many more!
