This was not an easy shot to get. The lighting in this section of the museum is rather sparse and dramatically uneven. Since I prefer to use ambient lighting whenever possible, I had to find a place where the helicopter was illuminated fairly evenly ... and that meant getting to an elevated location where I could hand-hold the camera and snap a slow-shutter shot. I really wanted a pic showing the full length of this huge helicopter, but the only spot I could find where I could be snapping down from above was too close; even with my 18-55mm completely backed down I could not get the tail section in the shot. MH-53s were retrofitted HH-53s, "Super Jolly Green Giants," and they sure were giants.

Nice shot under difficult lighting conditions Gary.

Nice shot, Gary! It turned out pretty darn well especially considering what you had to do to get the shot. And a significant piece of history from the Vietnam War, too.

Gary, very nice photo right here in my home town. I got to go the the AF Museum in around 1953 with the Cub Scouts and it made an imprint in my mind that I have never lost.

Jim and Greg ... Hi, guys, and TY to each of you for the comments. (Wave)
Sam ... Dang. I wish I'd have made your acquaintance (here on FA) a couple years ago. I was in Ohio about 18 months ago to visit the USAF Museum (a visit I'd always wanted to do). I was there for two days, but I wish I could have stayed for four or five.
My next trip back east is a couple months from now to NY, but if I'm ever going to be back around Dayton, etc., I'll let you know and perhaps we can meet for a couple hours at least. (Thumbs Up)
