"Par Avion"... French for "by aéroplane"... or "aeroplane"... or "airplane" if you prefer! These two words were and remain synonymous with postal Air Mail service as set forth by the International Postal Union... :-)

Back in the day, as they say, Air Mail (Par Avion) was a unique class of mail with the U.S. Post Office Department and was afforded special handling and prompt dispatch. Air Mail contracts were often highly prized and sought after by the commercial airlines of that era.

I always thought it was French for Air Mail! And thought why are there 3 Par Avion liveried aircraft with the same livery here in Australia with (AirMail) in French on there tails and yet, all 3 aircraft carried PAX as charter operators!
