Fuel leak forces United flight from Newark to make emergency landing

Übermittelt

A flight headed from Newark Liberty International Airport to Buffalo made an emergency landing in Rochester on Sunday due to a fuel leak, officials said. Pilots aboard GoJetAirlines flight 4583 operating as United Express “encountered a possible fuel imbalance” and decided to divert to Greater Rochester International Airport, about 60 miles east of the plane’s destination, United said in a statement. Left Newark at 4:26 and was due in Buffalo at 5:44 but Landed in Rochester at 7:10?? So they stayed in the air an extra 1hr 24 minutes with a possible fuel leak??? Can somone explain why they didnʻt just make a normal landing in Buffalo at that point.

A Perfect Example of Clueless Journalism... The statement "The cause of the leak in one of the plane’s wings wasn’t immediately clear." Geez... they automatically assume the wing was leaking... I mean really... There is more than one place for Fuel To Leak From! DOH! and as expected "the wing was not leaking!

Well, they did mention a fuel imbalance. Cause enough for concern.

What I thought was funny was the divert from KBUF to KRST (Rochester). Weather?

I've ridden my bike that far.

Unless they really did mean RST……..I’d be looking for a new crew or maybe an older one!

It was correct... It was ROC (Rockchester)

Yeah... Enough for Concern, and it was a Fuel Problem... Just no research on behalf of the reporter... The emergency did exist, but the wing was not leaking!

Interesting that for a :35 (230) nm trip EWR - ROC depending on when the divert occurred the elapsed time was 2:36 according to the article? And an emergency to boot. I mean it’s only a :55 minute flight to BUF?
