United Airlines CEO says business and international travel needs to return to about 65% for airline

Übermittelt

United Airlines CEO Scott Kirby says business and international travel has to return to about 65 percent for the airline to see profitability. “We’re not sure on the timing. There’s two big variables that we need. One, we need business travel to come back, and two, we need the international border to reopen….What we really need to do is get back to about 65 percent of normal levels for business demand and international, long-haul demand to get to break even.” (www.washingtonpost.com) Mehr...

united can stop crying in the wilderness, wringing their corporate hands and set international pricing at lower levels to stimulate travel, jacking up the numbers of price sensitive passengers. ;

Do they really think they will get business travel back to pre-pandemic levels any time soon?

Do they really think it ever will? Sure, there’s the f2f component of business relationships that is irreplaceable but the better the electronic meeting technology, the less the need for travel. I’m not even looking forward to returning onsite to my workplace. It’s a loss of two hours of my day.

I’ve never travelled in my role enough to not enjoy it though and always viewed it as a perk but my employer has really minimized travel even before the pandemic.

Now that they are into woke pilot hiring, rather than hiring on the basis of ability, I will not be flying them from now on.

incorrect. If any person, lgbtq+ or not, can safely fly the airliner, can get through the check rides, get through the sims, well, I'm not going to be the jerk who gets all huffy about the non-white guy sitting up front.
