In the states the cop would go to jail and the perp would get a million dollar settlement.

A question for the critics of the police - how would you have stopped the plane? Please provide a realistic answer bearing in mind the circumstances and the time available.
skyrider2010
you don't !

I am not a critic. He did what he needed to in order to stop them. Hit a little hard, but the aluminum in the wing is soft. Once he hit the left aileron it was over. If they would have taken off they probably would have crashed big time.

they were smuggling electronical equipment with a value of only $ 130,000 no drugs involved ! destroying an airplane an jeopardizing lives !! just unreal ! but that
is brazil ! this is way out of proportion and shows what the government and the military police ( brazil has three kind of policemen , military, federal and civilian, the first has the power !) is capable of.

The way it should be, get the job done. It always frustrates me to see a police "chase" where they are not chasing at all but merely following while endangering everyone along the way. Chase implies you are actually trying to catch. Either get it done or call it off. Good job getting it done on this one.

At Richard>>>it was intense, but in the States we use the PIT and I guess this is or was the Brazilian way of doing buisness

We Americans would have done the it same way back in the wild west, but there were no planes in 1888

Reminds me of the time I accidentally forgot to pay my landing fee while in the Bahamas. Two police cars chased me all the way down to the departure end of the dirt runway! I handed them the $10 bill through my window...and they were real happy. No guns or bumps though :-0

Never seen a PIT on a plane before. Way cool. Just jamming that left aileron might have been also effective in the long run.

US officers have used "unauthorized" methods to bring down smugglers. First hand knowledge. (But you didn't hear it from me. And no firearms to my knowledge.) ;-)

Very courageous, yet risky. What if the plane blew up from wing fuel? Or what if there were innocent lives on the plane not knowing about the cargo? How about the safety of the police in the car? I think, there should be better ways for stopping a plane. The DEA should be equipped with similar planes and some other tech and weaponary advantages in order to fight such crimes.
